Great debate on lottery and education. I even resorted to name-calling. When I get off work tonight, this may be where all my time goes. If you choose to enter, be nice. These people are my friends.

For some reason, my somewhat ancient post about J.J. Redick’s ridiculous poetry has become quite the hotspot for debate about his sexual preference! Seriously, check the comments out!
Also, some commenters apparently think I know the bard of Durham. But if you do, I have the e-mail addresses of about thirty 15-year-olds who would like to get to know him. They luv him. Luuuuv him.
Don’t get all excited, 15-year-old girls. I didn’t take that photo. I stole it from flickr.com. But maybe if you Google hard enough, you can find pictures of his b00bies!

Amos Brown of Raleigh sends this:
hey man,
I was checking out your site and saw that my name was under your friends list pointing to an old domain of mine. I havent updated it in a while, and i think it expired. I clicked on it and it pointed me to a generic pr0n site. I am still trying to cope with that one right now.
can you update that to point to www.thoughtmongers.com?
Gladly, Amos! What’s weird is that while you are busy peddling your filthy smut, my wife is in the clear. It seems that heidiwhite.com no longer points to pr0n. I’m sure as soon as someone sees that URL in a web page, pornographers will snatch it up, but for now, it’s not pr0n.
Beginning again with this entry, I’m going back to song lyrics as the titles of all blog entries. Dunford inspired me to do so. He shall have music suggestions once more.

While Carolina tries to give George Mason the basketball game, I figure now is a good time to let you know what amazing things I have been up to. After my adventures with the vacuum cleaner yesterday, Dr. Moser came over for beer and rasslin’. I found Friday Night Smackdown to be far more entertaining than the average Monday Night Raw– it’s about three times funnier! (The wrestling is really not so fantastic. Enh.)
Then Ladybug and I went out on an honest-to-goodness date, which is not something we do nearly enough. We met Ben and Andi, Amos and Chelsea, and Ben and Tracy for dinner at California Pizza Kitchen and a little movie action. (V for Vendetta, which I recommend, though not as highly as I would recommend that you read in graphic novel form.)
By the way, did I mention that Carolina seems inclined to give this ballgame away? Anyhow, V for Vendetta was the first movie I’d seen in the theater since the third Star Wars, and before that X-Men 2 was the last film I’d seen in the theater.
This morning, I moved all of my comics out of the cave in preparation for installing the Gorilla Racks, which I will build later this evening. Mom and John came over, brought some lunch, and John and I dismantled the old atlas shelves. (Those have now been reassembled in the garage, where Ladybug will be using them to store god knows what.) I would like to give a shout-out to WD-40, which was a great help in the effort.
It was awesome.
Save.

As a cat person, I have several times vacuumed the house and had a whole new cat by the end– Miss Kitty particularly could shed her weight in fur about every 36 hours. I really did have 5 pounds of cat hair after steam-cleaning the carpets in the old house when Chris moved out.
So, I expect to see a lot of fur when vacuuming. However, while vacuuming the bedroom today, the vacuum sputtered a little bit and began to smell like burning ass. Alarmed, I switched it off and turned it over to see what could possibly be stuck in there. And sure enough, there was a massive clump of hair preventing the vacuum from spinning. But as I pulled and tugged, it turned out to be human hair. It turns out that over time, my wife sheds her weight in hair, as well! And it’s long enough and strong enough to mangle a Bissell!

If you are looking for a ton of free, legal music, SXSW has collected one track from many of the artists being showcased and is making them available as very large BitTorrent files. With a selection this gargantuan, you would be very hard-pressed not to find some things that you enjoy.
The first release has 713 songs, the second has 229. They’re also releasing trailers for a bunch of the films being shown. Holy cow. That’s awesome. Go get ‘em.

I went ahead and did some tinkering and set up a second monitor, so it’s geekland for me.
My next geek project, and you will be handsomely compensated with lavish praise in this blog if you can help me in this endeavour: Figuring out how the php which allows the user to skin my site works. It’s there, and I have the skins folder ready to go, I just need to know how to point the user to the correct folder that contains the skin.
I would like to beat the staff at Walgreen’s to death. I waited for almost an hour for my prescription to be filled, and was assured several times that I was next, only I never seemed to be next. Finally, they figured out that they had filled it almost 30 minutes previous and no one noticed. During my one-hour wait, I heard them present many, many excuses to many, many customers, which individually sounded plausible, but which, in combination, sounded like a pack of big, fat lies. If you had a prescription filled, I’d look real hard at the pills to make sure you got the right meds. Otherwise, you may end up ingesting an anal suppository.
Ultimate Comics has opened a second store just in front of Eastgate on 15-501. It’s very nice. You should check it out. My visit on the way to the pharmacy today may be the last time I go into a comics shop and don’t spend any money. Ever.

When I woke up this morning, I had to debate whether or not I would even leave the bed. I had decided that no, I would not do so, but after about an hour, I had to pee, so I figured that was as good an impetus to begin the day as any.
I came downstairs to check e-mail, and my monitor, which had been flirting with the abyss, finally decided to die and stay dead. I was not happy about that. Later in the day, I went out and purchased a 19″ and a 17″ monitor. I did not expect the 19″ to be so cheap. In fact, I was able to purchase both for the price that I expected to spend on one monitor. I may return the 17″, but at the moment I am still flirting with the idea of multiple monitors, which would allow me to live out so many geek fantasies… you have no idea.
My mom dropped by for a visit because she was in my neck of the woods. Within 20 minutes, I had wounded her so badly that she left near tears.
Despite feeling like doo doo, I completed my third packet for grad school today and sent it off. I have to complete five, with an option for a sixth (which I fully plan to take). My wife also feels like doo doo, and came home early from work for a nap. She still left to teach her ESL class.
Corey Brown dropped in with some files he made for me. When I figure out the php necessary to allow me to skin this site, I will begin using the ludicrous header he made for me. I love Corey Brown dearly, though calling him a retard to his face may not have showed him that.
My mom came back over because she felt bad about having left upset. I believe I managed to upset her even more.
Despite the fact that I know it to be an extremely self-destructive behavior, I put a lot of caffiene in my body after 8 PM.
I am listening to a Pixies live show now that sounds absolutely superb. Aside from stroking my wife’s hair as she slept, this may be the high point of my day. If only because I simply cannot fuck this up.

I am sick again. For those keeping tally, this is like the millionth time this year. It is getting old, and very quickly. I wish I could jump out of this body and into another one, which would probably necessitate a new brain, too. Well, I wouldn’t quibble with that. Just let me keep my wife and cats, please.

No Battlestar Galactica until October? God, I think the only thing about that damn show that I won’t miss is Adama’s new porn moustache!
