Simplifying and Wilt Chamberlain

Thoughts No Comments

In an attempt to simplify some things, I have decided that I will be re-committing myself to news feeds, but I have dramatically limited the number of feeds. I cut a little more than half of the feeds that I had before, and have dumped the rest into one folder– no more reading some people’s folders immediately and letting others accumulate for a month before I go in (which is why I had, for a while), stopped reading feeds altogether.

This article was a really pleasant read, not because I care about Phil Jackson one way or the other, but because Klosterman’s read on Wilt Chamberlain’s true failings is spot-on and oddly touching at the moment. This article would not have made it into my new feed scheme, which means that I will still occassionally hunt for things rather than having them delivered.

I also decommissioned my first RSS love, Feedreader, and will be doing it all in Thunderbird now. Simplifying.

From 8:16 Until About 10:42, Today Was Sucking

We have, for several weeks, been waking up to Tuscadero’s “My Way or the Highway.” I dig on Tuscadero, but today I managed to sleep through their entire album, only to awake with a start at 8:16. I was showered and in my car by 8:29, determined not to be late, but then was headed to I-40 only to find that NC-55 was closed between 40 and Carpenter Fletcher. I then got behind an Orkin truck on Woodcroft Parkway that stopped several times, as though it were breaking down, and then would re-start and putter along for a while before doing it again. Each time, I was unable to pass due to oncoming traffic.

When I got to work, I was unable to access any sites off of the UNC campus. I began backing up data, ready to hit a system restore point, but was more concerned that I’d been penalty-boxed for something or another, which was upsetting. As it turns out, the stupid IBM program that controls my network connection was looking for my home router to use as the gateway for my wired connection. Stupid IBM Access Connections.
