I’m Back from Warren Wilson

I’m now home, with a newfound and great appreciation for air conditioning, indoor cats, and free laundry equipment. Living in a room with no real ventilation grows wearisome, especially when your clothes get sweaty and then just mold in a corner. Yuck!

I’m having trouble stopping the WWC experience whole-hog, as I am already wondering if I should start my first annotation this afternoon or not. I’m leaning towards a one-day break to do laundry– I think the annotation is only a consideration because my brain just doesn’t know what else to do right now.

Yesterday was fulfilling… the graduation ceremony at WWC is exceptionally odd but oddly tender. The President and the Dean of Students for the University brought out a guitar and a flute and played and sang for the graduates; in addition to conferring upon them a degree, the program gives each graduate a walking stick. At the dinner that followed, the Swannanoa Singers, which was made up of four students and the residency fellow sang parody songs about the experience, Lucy and Megan presented the hula hoop to Reed to pass on to future classes, and the alumni group made a sweet speech to the grads.
