I Like to Watch What Alcoholics Refer to as a “Moment of Clarity”
June 15, 2005 9:10 pm ImprovLooooong day today, but productive and good. I had a training with some of the K-12 teachers, a few of whom I had corresponded with but never met. And I am pleased to report that I like them. Which is good news. Because I am a dick to people I don’t like.
Speaking of people I like, I started a new Level 1 class at DSI last night, and it was spectacular. I love love love teaching Level 1 classes, because you can’t have that moment where someone discovers this art form that’s been with them their whole lives anywhere but in an intro class. I love to watch people who have never been on stage, people who are unsure of themselves or don’t think they can do it, shock themselves in a moment of brutal, hilarious honesty in front of relative strangers. Even the most polished improvisers don’t have moments like that. There’s a magic in that first improv class.
