Follow-up to the This Week in DSI post… I had mentioned an IRC thread where the IRC gang reminisced about invading the Dat Phan message boards. Well, wow, I didn’t realize the time and energy that Todd Simmons (who also played the bathroom attendant in the Improv Everywhere prank) had put into pranking the Phanatics. (Todd accounts for large portions of the hilarious thread as Seamonkey, Bungholio, and Stupid Idiot.) Nice!
Once again, Ladybug and I lived out our rockstar fantasties on a Saturday night by doing karaoke with a small group at Arnie’s. Jennings thrilled the crowd with his stellar rendition of No Doubt’s “Spiderwebs,” then he and Moser rocked “Total Eclipse of the Heart” six ways from Sunday. PT did some song I faintly recognize as “Sebastian” the Russian.
We attempted to have people over beforehand so they could drink all of the alcohol I inherited after Tara Powell moved away, but people just wanted to drink our beer. What does it take to give away some liquor in Durham, North Carolina? Seriously, people. This was a tame crowd. Of course, I drank slowly enough that I never really even caught a buzz, which is a poor idea for karaoke. I still sang, like I have gotten accustomed to doing, but I just kept criticizing myself for poor performances when I was done. What a pain.
