As My Head Drains
March 3, 2005 Thoughts No CommentsI’m really trying to get back to the post-a-day strategy that made blogging so healthy and enjoyable for me in 2002 and 2003. I definitely strayed from that, and February was a terrifically bad month for me, blogwise. I didn’t post much, and when I did, I wouldn’t let myself feel like it was worth posting. Sometimes, I get away from the fact that White Noise is ultimately for me and me alone, and anyone else poking in is a beneficiary in some way, else they won’t come back. So, if I let the audience steer the blog for a while, I’m back behind the wheel.
I got all cold-medicined up and went and did some presentations at NCaect, the not-for-profit tech conference that I like to go to. There’s entirely too much profit to be had in the K-12 arena. Seems like everyone wants some of it. I wish people could figure out that giving away the information is a good business plan… because it pays dividends in a well-informed, well-educated society that we can all enjoy. This kind of thinking is almost certainly going to get me branded as a communist at some point.
Bobby and I did one presentation in our pajamas, which sounded like a great idea before we knew that they would stick us in the coldest room in the building.
After watching Melissa give a presentation on Wikis and some other tools you can use in the classroom, I came home and started pooting about on the Wikipedia, to which I contribute every so often. This time, I tried to go through and police some of the self-plugging that was happening on the improv comedy page– resigned to the fact that everyone wants a link, I set up an external links section just for troupes to plug. I find it hilarious that some people took out links to perfectly legitimate theaters when they inserted their own. (I’ll admit to some self-plugging, though– I set up a page for DSI a while ago, and someone expanded it, which I thought was cool. I’m hoping that other DSI kids will expand it far beyond the original stub that I put up there.)
Build, build, build.
