Biased Headline of the Day

Here’s a doozy– the Boston Herald ran an article with the headline:

Computer use boosts MCAS scores hands down

But– hey-yo!– the fifth paragraph begins:

The study also revealed that students who play computer games, chat online and surf the Web had lower MCAS reading scores.

Whoops!

Waste of Meatspace

I came in to work today with a sunny disposition and much less of an impending sense of dread than I have exhibited in the past few weeks. So, right on. It may have something to do with the fact that I spent the weekend selfishly– Saturday night’s trip to Richmond was cancelled due to an ice storm that ended up being a flurry of ice pellets falling from the sky for a few hours and ultimately, not doing any harm. (I was pretty miffed at Mother Nature for that.)

Sunday, the cable guy came to give me cable modem, which, should it work, will save me a couple buck each month when I cancel my Verizon land line and DSL. I finally– after only 18 months– grew tired of having to purchase a service I didn’t want to get one that I did. I’d originally gone with DSL at the new house because cable’s service was so abyssmally bad at the old one. And to tell the truth, Verizon’s service was pretty darn good in the time that I used them, so I won’t rule out a return, but for now, the $$ differential was too great.

Plus, I sold a crapload of CDs over the weekend on half.com. If you want to buy my stuff, let me know.

So, all in all, I was a total hermit, leaving the house only one time, to shop for some nice shirts so I can look at least a hair more professional than I have in the past. The majority of my time was spent killing brain cells, not through some drug, but through inactivity, television, and computer. I was a waste of space this weekend, everything I generally tend to despise in myself, and I came out feeling all right about that.
